Insurance Cover – What’s Included & What to Know

All CoconutRoads Motorhome rentals come with vehicle insurance, including compulsory third-party liability (CTP), property cover, and a Loss Damage Waiver (LDW).

No deductible required – you're covered for both partial repairs and full replacement if the vehicle is written off.

That said, it's important to be aware of how insurance coverage works in Thailand, especially around third-party liability.

Public Liability & CTP Limits

Thailand’s CTP insurance has capped limits:

  • Up to THB 500,000 per person injured or killed in an accident (approximately USD 15’000)

  • Maximum of THB 10 million per accident (approximately USD 310’000)

  • Cover for third-party property damage is capped at THB 600,000 per incident (approximately USD 19’000)

These limits apply under the Road Protection Act.

Important Note

We highly recommend taking out your own private third-party insurance to cover any serious damage to other vehicles, property, or harm to people or animals, especially in the case of serious accidents.

By law in Thailand, the driver is personally responsible for any harm caused to third parties.

For your safety and ours, we’ll only release the vehicle to you once we’ve received your signed disclaimer form confirming you understand and accept these terms.

Insurance Exclusions – What’s Not Covered

While your CoconutRoads rental includes insurance protection, there are some important exceptions to be aware of.

As the renter and driver, you’ll be responsible for the following types of damage and associated costs:

  • If the vehicle is driven by someone not holding a valid driving licence, or by someone not listed on the rental agreement

  • If the driver is found to be under the influence of alcohol (above the legal limit), narcotics, cannabis, or certain medications that impair safe driving

  • Any damage caused by reckless or careless driving

Other Situations Not Covered by Insurance

  • Driving off-road, on closed or prohibited roads, beaches, rivers, or into the sea

  • Damage from ignoring vehicle height restrictions, such as hitting low bridges, branches and cables.

  • Any damage caused inside the living cabin of the Motorhome

  • Unusual wear and tear to tyres, the windscreen, or vehicle fixtures

  • Damage or loss of the camping equipment provided

  • Mechanical issues caused by user error, such as misfuelling or ignoring warning lights

  • Damage resulting from flooding, fire, or theft due to negligence

In Case of an Accident or Breakdown

If you’re involved in an accident or breakdown, please take the following steps:

  1. Call the insurance company immediately. They’ll guide you through what to do next and provide any details you need. Depending on the severity of the situation, you may also need to contact the police.

  2. An insurance agent will be sent to the scene to inspect the vehicle and the surroundings. Be ready to provide:

    I. Your rental agreement

    II. Driving licence

    III. The vehicle’s car book

  3. An official accident report will need to be completed on site, with both parties involved signing it in the presence of the agent.

  4. Don’t forget to take photos of any damage, road conditions, and surroundings. Then send these to us at CoconutRoads so we can assist you further.

If the Motorhome is involved in an accident but still safe to drive, you may continue your journey - just make sure all reporting steps have been completed as outlined earlier.

If the vehicle can’t be driven, here’s what to do:

  • Call a breakdown recovery service and have the Motorhome taken to the nearest Vehicle Brand service centre

  • Leave the keys inside the vehicle and secure the area as best as you can

  • As the driver, you’ll be responsible for arranging your own transport from the breakdown site

  • Reimbursement of repatriation to Phuket (and any repair costs) may be possible, but is subject to the outcome of the insurance assessment and requires detailed invoices

In all cases, whether it’s a breakdown or accident - please call CoconutRoads as soon as possible so we can guide and support you through the situation.

Please note: Breakdown recovery and repatriation services are not included in the insurance policy. We strongly recommend taking out comprehensive travel insurance before your trip to cover these potential costs.
