Waterfall near the dolphin pool at the Kahala Hilton. Many weddings take place in the gazebo. The resort is located on the south shore of Oahu, between Diamond Head and the Windard Side. You can walk around and enjoy the grounds. I enjoyed the waterfall but not seeing the dolphins in such a small pool. The dolphins seem to have more fun at the Waikoloa Resort on the Big Island, and even more fun out in the ocean. Next trip to Oahu we want to go on the sail boat dolphin cruise where sometimes you can swim with the dolphins.
More Friends of Malaekahana Photos (This campground is near the North Shore of Oahu and is one of the best in the islands - absolutely beautiful, gated, secure, clean...and the Banyan tree showers and whimsical murals are wonderful.
North Shore view of the Hawaii's blue ocean. Photo taken from trail Puu O Mahuka Monument and Heiau.
You'll see the small trailhead in the brush just below the heiau. The monument is located near Elvis Presley's former Hawaii home.
Surf at Malaekahana Bay is often just right for children. I took this photo in the morning when the surf (and beach) were empty. This is also the site of one of the best camgrounds in Hawaii and the best on Oahu, Friends of Malaekahana.
Another photo of Malaekahana surf taken at a different time of day, hence the turquoise shade to the water. This is one of my favorite Oahu beaches and is located about 10 minutes from the famous North Shore.
Sunrise over Malaekahana Beach on Oahu. I just happened to wake up early. I peek outside my tent window, and lo and beyold :-)
In Hawaii, it is traditional to leave offerings of respect and gratitude such as lei and fruit at the heiau. The empty container of French fries littering the heiau at PuuO Mahuku (on Oahu's North Shore) didn't seem right. After I uploaded the photo, and as photos often do, this one brought something to my attention that I hadn't noticed on site -- the words on the fries' container. Click on thumbnail :-)
At Mel's Market in Waimanalo, Charlie, has been giving children rides for over half a century. The mom and pop store is next to the Patrick Ching's Naturally Hawaiian Gallery and Gifts (where another horse can be found -- on the roof!. Waimanalo is on the Windward, country side of Oahu. Beautiful Waimanalo Beach is a few blocks away.
I took these Oahu photos with a Canon PowerShot A70 on a 2004 Hawaii vacation. Feel free to use any of these Oahu photos for personal use on your desktop Hawaii wallpaper or on your Website. Email me and I'll send you high resolution versions without the brand if I have them. Click on the thumbnails and save from there if you like. I do ask that you include my photo credit:
