Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge &
Kilauea Lighthouse, Kauai Hawaii
The Kilauea Lighthouse is found at Kilauea Point near the town of Kapaa on Kauai (not to be confused with Kilauea Volcano on the Big Island.) The popular landmark and Kauai attraction began lighting the way for mariners almost a century ago in 1913.
Birdwatchers flock here to observe red-footed boobies, Laysan albatrosses, wedge-tailed shearwaters, and other seabirds in their natural habitat. Birds aren't all you will see at the Kilauea Lighthouse.
The National Marine Sanctuary waters surrounding the refuge are home to endangered Hawaiian monk seals, green sea turtles, and from October to April, humpback whales. You can learn more about Hawaii wildlife and watch a coral reef video at my Animals of Hawaii page.
