Hawaiian Language

The Hawaiian language is a melodic language rich in figuarative speech with multilayers of meanings and kaona (hidden meanings). This is one of the oldest of all languages on Earth, and it was nearly decimated after being banned from Hawaii's schools in the 19th century. Thankfully, the renaissance in Hawaii that began in the 1970's has blossomed into a new appreciation for this beautiful and poetic language.
