Sleeping at the Airport
If you’re driving quite a ways to one of the West Coast airports, such as LAX or San Francisco or Portland, and you have an early morning flight to Honolulu (or anywhere) and have nowhere to stay the night that is nearby, there is one option that won’t cost you a dime that you may not have considered. This wouldn’t be an option I’d choose, but many do as evidenced at SleepinginAirports.net

For example, one tip involves waking up on time to catch your flight when you’ve cocooned yourself with ear plugs and eye blinds. The traveler suggests, swearing it works, to place several sticky post-it notes on yourself and around you that read, “Wake me up at [fill in your time.]”
If you go this route, secure all your luggage, including carry-on’s, in an airport locker and keep your wallet in a very safe place, not a back pocket. Also, since some airports may have a policy against sleeping there, even though they may not enforce it, I am not endorsing this practice but am merely reporting what I’ve heard about it.
