At sea level the weather will be warm on Maui as on all the Hawaiian Islands, while up on Haleakala it can get freezing cold.
Locations and other details of Maui Campgrounds are described in this section, and you may also want to read my Hawaii Camping Supplies article.

Many readers have asked me if Maui campgrounds are visitor-friendly. Having lived in Hawaii for over 14 years, I suggest avoiding unofficial beach camping on Maui because while it is generally allowed if you're fishing, this is more of a "locals only" thing and rightly so, in my opinion.
Then there's Kanaha Beach Park in Kahului, the only county park campground; however, some pretty sketchy characters hang out here. That said, my recommendation to you - don't camp just anywhere on Maui, but do know that Maui offers visitor and family-friendly, beautiful campgrounds at the beach, overlooking the ocean and in the mountains.
Some of these Maui campgrounds are suited perfectly for those who don't mind rugged hikes and carrying in water and firewood, while others are absolutely perfect for those looking for a nice, campground with all the amenities. And like all things in life, you'll also find Maui campgrounds in between the extremes .
Campgrounds are found on the famous and lush Hana Coast, on Haleakala (where people come the world over to view the majestic sunrises) and a sunny West Maui beach.
Recommended Maui Campgrounds
Options for camping on the Hana Coast, as well as near Lahaina on the sunny side of Maui, include two privately owned Maui campgrounds: the YMCA campground in Hana (tent and cabins) and Camp Olowalu (tent camping, with cabins for large groups) at the beach of the same name.
Maui also offers ocean-view and wilderness tent site and cabins at Hawaii State Campgrounds and in Haleakala National Park.
Camping Gear for Maui
When camping on Maui, the gear you'll need will vary with the tent or cabin location, activities you have planned, how much comfort you want, etc.
